LAGHMAN - Afghan forces have suffered heavy casualties in a Taliban ambush in an area of eastern Laghman province, security sources said on Wednesday. The interior and defence ministries confirmed the ambush and casualties, but did not give further details.

Friendships forged with tank firepower between Marines, French Foreign Legion

(March 30, 2010) The rock-ribbed mountain terrain of Djibouti, Africa, furiously trembled as Marines and French Foreign Legionnaires barraged the earth with their battle tanks when the two militaries joined forces to conduct a bi-lateral training exercise here last month.

Marines break from training, spread goodwill at orphanges in Djibouti

As servicemembers from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit scaled mountains, shot an array of weapons, and learned to survive in the deserts of Djibouti, Africa, several Marines and Sailors were given an opportunity to break from their training for something the Marine Corps sees as a critical part of their deployment as well - volunteering in local communities of the countries they train in.

Medical conditions and infections that are easily treated in developed countries can become life threatening if left untreated for a long period of time. This is especially true for young children and pregnant women.

24th MEU arrives in Africa for training

Marines of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit prepare to board a CH-46 helicopter on their way to the East African nation of Djibouti Thursday to begin their first training exercise since returning to the Central Command area of operations. The Marines, members of Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 24th MEU, will spend the next several days firing an array of weapons aboard desert training ranges.

ABOARD USS IWO JIMA (Aug. 25, 2006) -- Nearly 1,000 Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, fresh from duty in Lebanon, arrived in the East African nation of Djibouti Thursday to begin their first training exercise since returning to the Central Command area of operations.
