Marine general: Afghans battling for Sangin

Insurgents probing defenses of national forces, locals

Afghan national security forces have effectively taken the lead for combat operations in the southwest of the country, where they have been battling insurgents for several days in a former enemy stronghold of Helmand Province, according to the Marine general in command of U.S. and international forces in the region.
