About 200 members of the Headquarters & Service and Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines based at Devens will report for duty May 17.

They will be deployed to Twentynine Palms, Calif., for several months of advanced infantry training before heading to Iraq, where they will be involved in combat operations.

Some elements of the unit will remain behind, having returned to the U.S. from a deployment to the Middle East in October 2006. Some members of the unit will be going for their second or third tour of duty to the Middle East.

The deployment is for one year.

A farewell ceremony is scheduled at Devens for May 26.
