CINCINNATI (AP) - About a thousand mourners gathered in a Cincinnati-area cemetery to pay their respects to a 21-year-old Marine who died last month in Iraq without ever seeing his now three-week-old daughter.

Cpl. Timothy Roos of Delhi Township was killed by a roadside bomb July 27 in Ramadi, his family said.

Roos' wife of three years, Sara, told mourners at the funeral Friday that she and her husband share an eternal love. He is also survived by his parents and a brother.

About 80 members of the Patriot Guard Riders, a group that travels to military funerals, carried American flags in front of the church where the funeral Mass was held.

His father, Rick, had said Roos joined the Marines right after his high school graduation in 2003. He had survived four attacks in Iraq before he was killed.

Roos once told a Marine news publication that the work of a Marine was frightening.

"But it is our job, so you've got to do it," he told the Marine Corps News.

He had planned a visit home in October to see his daughter, Annaliese.
