"I said, 'boring is good,'" Jack Williams said.

On Saturday, Marine Sgt. Christian B. Williams, 27, was killed in hostile fire while conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.

Williams had always wanted to be a Marine, Jack Williams said.

"Ever since he was little, he was planning to be a soldier," Jack Williams said.

After serving two terms in the Marines, Williams' family talked him out of re-enlisting, Jack Williams said.

But five months later, Williams told his family he wasn't happy being out of the military and he re-enlisted.

Born in the Philippines, Williams moved to Winter Haven in 1994 and attended Lake Region High School.

He had been planning to be married in September, his father said.

Even in high school, Williams knew he wanted to be a Marine, his father said.

A member of the school's Marine ROTC, Williams chose to continue with the ROTC rather than taking a shot at the Olympics in weightlifting, Jack Williams said.

"He was always an adventure seeker," Jack Williams said.
